OAKVILLE – Mark Andrew Ambrose Sr., age 63, of Oakville, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Danbury Hospital following his courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Johanna (Woznikaitis) Ambrose, his devoted wife of 40 years.
Mark was born on July 14, 1959, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Anthony Ambrose and Lila (Martin) Grassini . He was a graduate of local schools in both Woodbury and Middlebury and then went on to work as a self-employed courier. When Mark was not working, he enjoyed cooking, baking, tending to his gardens, fishing, and golf. Most of all, Mark cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mark will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to know him and love him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife, Johanna, are his children; Amanda (Joe) McGee, John Ambrose, Mark Ambrose Jr., and Amber Ambrose and her fiancé James. Mark and Johanna were blessed with 8 grandchildren; Ursula, Jasper, Sophie-Lynn, Nathan, Tobi, Tabitha, Christian, and Logan. He also leaves his siblings; Michael, Gary, Lucy, Nancy, Renee, Debbie, and Dane, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Mark was predeceased by his brother, John and grandson, Stitch McGee.
Funeral services for Mr. Ambrose will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. from the Casey - O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville, to Saint Mary Magdalen Church, 16 Buckingham St., Oakville, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in New North Cemetery, Woodbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Mark’s family on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until leaving for Mass at 9:30 a.m. Loving-kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you.
