OAKVILLE - Martin "Larry" Bartholomew age 64, of Main St. Oakville, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 28, 2013 surrounded by his family at St. Mary's Hospital.
Larry was born May 24, 1949 in Sacramento CA, the son of the late Martin and Mildred (Hilty) Bartholomew. He grew up in the Youngstown Ohio area and moved to Waterbury CT in 1978.
He attended classes at Waterbury State Technical College. He was employed as an Electronic Engineer at General DataCom for many years and enjoyed being a member of the GDC bowling league. He was a talented guitar player and greatly appreciated the music of Pink Floyd and Stevie Ray Vaughn. He was interested in history, particularly Native American history and as a younger man enjoyed hunting for arrowheads. Larry was an ardent fan of the San Francisco Giants and taught his daughters to play baseball. He was a "Friend of Bill W" and devoted many hours volunteering to assist others.
Larry is survived by two loving daughters and a son-in-law; Marta Urban of Bridgeport and Christine and Shawn Carmody of Bristol. He also leaves his granddaughter, Piper Carmody and his longtime companion, Beth Cook.
Funeral services for Mr. Bartholomew will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Eastside Memorial, a Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Larry's family on Thursday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am at the funeral home.
