VERNON CT Mrs. Mary (Minervini) Cofrancesco, age 91, formerly of Oakville CT., died Wednesday evening with her loving family at her side, at Rockville General Hospital after an extended illness. She was the widow of Dr. Richard E. Cofrancesco DDS.
Mary was born on January 26, 1916 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Joseph and Marianne (Scozzafava) Minervini. She was raised in Waterbury where she was a graduate and the valedictorian of her class at Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. She was a graduate of Albertus Magnus College where she earned her BS in Biology and a graduate of Western CT State University where she earned her BA in Education. She then went on to earn her Masters Degree in early childhood education from the University of Connecticut and her sixth (6th) year Administration and Supervision Degree from Fairfield University. She was first employed at Scovill Mfg. in the plant Industrial Hospital and Personnel Division and she was also a reporter for the "Scovill Bulletin". After her marriage she moved to Oakville and enjoyed a 30 year career with the Watertown Board of Education, where she taught 1st, 2nd and 5th grades at Polk School and was Teaching Principal at Falls Ave. School. In addition she was the Director of the Summer Head Start and Early Education Programs and taught Americanization and Citizenship Courses for 10 years. Mary was an active member and had served as President of the following organizations: Rosary Society , St. Mary Magdalen Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary 7330, Waterbury Dental Auxiliary, Waterbury AARP, Member of 5th District Quota Club and she served 3 years on Watertown Board of Education. Mary loved to travel and especially enjoyed her trips abroad to Europe and the Holy Land. She moved to Vernon 10 years ago to be closer to her family.

Mary is survived by her son, Richard and his wife Elaine Cofrancesco of Tolland, four grandchildren: Christa Martyszczyk of Colchester CT, Richard Cofrancesco of Lake Mary, FL and Edward and Michael Cofrancesco both of Tolland CT. She also leaves 3 Great grandchildren: Brenden, Heather and William as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Minervini.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cofrancesco will be held on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 9:30am from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St Oakville to St. Mary Magdalen Church, Buckingham St. Oakville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-5pm.
