WATERBURY - Mrs. Mary Butler Cook, age 86 of Waterbury passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her devoted family. She was the wife of William Cook Jr.
Mary was born January 7, 1928 in Waterbury the daughter of Henry T. and Helen (McHugh) Butler. She was a graduate of Meriden High School and attended the famous Writer School of Westport, CT. During the 1960"s, Mary fought for the meals on wheels program, citywide bussing for city schools and for student hot lunch programs. Mary was an avid animal lover, which was clear to anyone who observed the love she shared with her dog "Paddy". Mary will always be remembered for her poetry, quick Irish wit and her ability to make all feel loved, respected and valued.
Besides her loving husband of 57 years, Mary leaves three sons, Christopher H. Cook and his wife, State Representative Michelle L. Cook of Torrington, David L'Heureux and his wife Karen of Browns Mills NJ, Jaime L'Heureux and his wife Shaylea of Loveland CO. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Terri Quattro Cook of Waterbury, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Mary was pre-deceased by her son, Attorney William J. Cook III and her brother, Henry T. Butler Jr.
Friends and Relatives may visit with Mary's family on Monday evening from 5:00 till 7:00pm at Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home and Tribute Center" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. There will be a celebration of life at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in Mary's name may be made to the Animal Rescue Foundation of CT 366 Main St. Terryville CT 06786
