SOUTHBURY- The family of Mary Ellen Griffin, age 85, of Southbury, share news of her peaceful passing on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of John E. Griffin.

Mary was born on April 22, 1939, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Murphy. Mary dedicated many years to serving as a registered nurse in the dialysis unit at Waterbury Hospital caring for the infirmed but making special memories for all of her patients. She had a passion for reading, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to love and know her.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory is her daughter, Cynthia (David) Iannone of Middlebury, her granddaughter Nina (Trevor) Ianonne-Douglas of Southbury, along with extended family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her daughters; Maura and Corinne Griffin, her sister, Patricia Collins, and brothers; Charles, Joseph, and Bill Murphy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 when a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo’ the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
