AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME
Waterbury Mary Ellen Shea, age 62, of Scott Rd Waterbury, died unexpectedly at home on Monday, December 19, 2011. She was the wife of Thomas W. Shea.
Mrs. Shea was born October 20, 1949 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late John P. and Dorothy (Ziems) Fitzgerald. Mary Ellen was a lifelong Waterbury resident, a graduate of Crosby High School and received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Central Connecticut State University. She taught at the Southbury Training School for 25 years retiring in 2003 and remained active in the CSEA Union retirees Local 404. Mary Ellen loved antiquing with a special affinity for all things Victorian and from the Depression Era. Along with her husband she was an avid UCONN basketball and NY Yankees fan. Mary Ellen also enjoyed taking cruise's with her husband and traveling, as well as spending time at the Jersey Shore and Cape Cod. She also enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She always looked forward to her monthly retiree group meeting with her fellow retired co-workers from Southbury Training School.
Besides her husband Tom of 33 years, Mary Ellen is survived by her two step daughters, Tracey Dunn and her husband Alex of Attleboro MA and Kelley DeRoy and her husband Jeffrey of Meriden, as well as her five grandchildren; Patrick, Jonathan, Connor, Megan and Amanda. She also leaves her dear cousin and godmother, Dorothy B. Mattson of Naugatuck.
Funeral services For Mrs. Shea will be held on Thursday December 22nd at 10:00 at Saint John's Episcopal Church on the Green 16 Church St Waterbury. Those planning on attending are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Friends and family may visit at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00p.m.
