AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - Waterbury, CT. Mrs. Mary Rose (Delaney) Garrity, age 92, of Kelsey St. Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Beacon Brook Healthcare Center in Naugatuck. She was the devoted wife of Peter Garrity
Mrs. Garrity was born on December 22, 1919 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late William and Ethel (Wright) Delaney. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury, the city she loved. Mary grew up in the Brooklyn section before losing her family home in the great flood of 1955. Mary attended Waterbury Catholic High School and made her career with Lea Manufacturing where she worked for over 20 years. Mary was a parishioner of St Francis Xavier Church.
Mary was an accomplished athlete. She was an avid softball player in the local Woman's Leagues and was even invited to play in the Woman's Professional Baseball League during the war. The league received great notoriety through the popular movie, " A League of their Own". She had to decline the invitation so that she could care for her ailing mother. Mary was also a talented golfer and duck pin bowler and won many golf championships at Chase Country Club (now Farmingbury Hills). Mary had a great sense of humor and always up for an adventure. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Besides her husband Peter of 54 years, Mary leaves her son, Mark and his wife Kathy of Annapolis MD and her two grandchildren, Michael "Gus" Garrity and Mary Kate Garrity. She was preceded in death by her brother William Delaney.
Funeral services for Mrs. Garrity will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 9:30am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 E. Main St Waterbury to Saint Francis Xavier Church 625 Baldwin St Waterbury, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Entombment with follow in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at funeral home on Tuesday morning from 8:00am till 9:30am.
