AT THE CASEY - O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - WATERBURY CT. Mary Rose Hanson, age 95, formerly of Heaton St. Waterbury, died Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Saint Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Martin D. Hanson.
Mrs. Hanson was born April 24th 1915 in New Haven, CT, the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Lutz) Koriza. She was a graduate of Wilby High School. Mary had a very strong work ethic and held various jobs after graduating high school. She moved to New York City where she worked as a private nanny for three years before moving back to the Waterbury area where she worked in various companies including, Seth Thomas Clock, Reymonds Bakery and Pick-Wik Grocery store, where she was a cashier prior to her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, and cooking but was happiest while she was entertaining friends or spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of Saint Leo the Great church. While residing at the Cheshire House, she participated and lead many of the social activities including bingo, raffles, crafts, exercising, and leading the rosary. She loved to laugh, and never missed a goodtime and will be remembered for her great sense of humor and generosity.
Mary is survived by her son, Martin Hanson of Guilford, her daughter Marjorie Steck of Bristol, her four sisters; Estelle Sarajak and Helen McClain of Terryville, Virginia Bado of Torrington and Katherine Kosikowski of Thomaston, four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son in law Marlin Steck and her sister Josephine Gracie.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Hanson will be held on Friday, May 28th, 2010 at 10:30 from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St. Waterbury to Saint Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Dr Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 till 8 pm.
