SOUTHBURY -  Mary Lorraine Hart 76, formerly of Harwinton/Waterbury, died with her loving nephew and niece by her side at the Lutheran Home in Southbury on Thursday, May 30, 2024 after a long illness of dementia. 

 

Mary, fondly known as Matante Lorraine, was born on November 13, 1947 in Waterbury,  the daughter of the late Arthur and Marguerite (Baril) Hart. She grew up in Waterbury, attending area schools and a graduate of Catholic High School in 1965. She went on to St. Mary’s School of Nursing in

Montreal, Canada graduating in 1968 as an R.N. Lorraine continued her nursing education and became one of the first few in 1969 as an APRN. She continued to work her entire career in the nursing & health care field. She moved to Harwinton to care for her dear friend and former teacher, Nancy Goodhue.

Matante retired as a Nurse Consultant for the Department of Social Services Quality Assurance Division for the State of Connecticut in 2012. She was a devout Catholic a parishioner of St. Anne’s Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Ann. She served her church well over the years, in many ministries and councils. Matante Lorraine was an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s in West Hartford, with a Chapter in Waterbury. Upon her retirement, Matante would give of her time at the polls in Harwinton and assist with the phone a thons for JMJ Catholic Radio. She enjoyed her time in the country to retreat with her daily scripture readings and prayer life, not to mention her trips to the Casino, and time spent with family and friends.

 

She is survived by her Godson & nephew, David Hardt along with his wife, Roberta who cared for Matante until her last day, great-nephew, Christopher Hardt all of Oakville. In addition, her long time dearest friends and her extended family in Canada, Lorraine also leaves great-nieces; Amanda Casey, Oliva Hardt, and great great-nephews and niece. Her parents, her sister, Virginia & her husband Philip Hardt, Sr., and nephew Phil Jr. precede her in death. 

 

Funeral Services for Ms. Mary Lorraine Hart will be held on Thursday June 6, 2024 when The Rite of Christian Burial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Disciples Parish, St. Mary Magdalen Church 16 Buckingham Street, Oakville at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown.

Family and Friends may visit with Lorraine’s family on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until leaving for church at 10:45 a.m. at the Casey O’Neil Funeral Home 742 Main Street Oakville. To honor Mary Lorraine’s memory, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery, 183 North Street, Watertown, CT 06795. The family would like to extend their special thanks to the caring, compassionate and, supportive staff of the Lutheran Home in Southbury, especially to Nora, Nancy, Cyndi, Pastor Leo, and the Hospice Staff.
