AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Waterbury, CT. Mrs. Mary M. Sharka, age 87, formerly of Chase Parkway Waterbury died Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Wolcott View Manor after an extended illness. She was the widow of Frank J. Sharka.
Mary was born August 9th 1920, in Liverpool England, the daughter of the late Anthony J. and Annie (Rushowski) Muraska and came to the United States with her parents and brother and sister at an early age. She graduated from St Joseph's Parochial Grammar School, and Waterbury Catholic High School. She worked for a local insurance agency before joining the City of Waterbury. Throughout her tenure as a City employee, she was assigned to various departments. She served as Executive Secretary for both Mayor Edward D. Bergin Sr. as well as Mayor Edward D. Bergin Jr. For a brief time she served as the Commissioner on Aging. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida and Cape Cod but most especially she enjoyed her oversees travel, visiting many European countries as well as the Orient. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and from her many years at City Hall she remained quite active in local politics.
Mrs. Sharka leaves a brother, Mr. Anthony S. Muraska of Wolcott.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sharka will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 9:30am from the Casey O'Donnell Family Funeral Home 1581 East Main St. Waterbury to SS Peter & Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 8:30- 9:30 am.
