THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF MARY STANISZ
"Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother"
OAKVILLE - Mary (Ligas) Stanisz, age 97 of Oakville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Watertown Convalarium. She was the widow of John A. Stanisz.
Mary was born on February 5, 1921 in Meriden, the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary (Kaminski) Ligas. Shortly after Mary was born, the family returned to their home in Poland. At the age of 16, Mary returned to the United States, alone, just before the commencement of World War II. She had many friends and distant relatives that helped her get settled with her new life in America. Mary was a strong woman who worked a variety of jobs, retiring from Timex in 1983. She loved the outdoors and gardening. She could be found walking around her yard, planting shrubs and flowers. Seeing that first crocus pop out of the ground in February was her sign that Spring was on the way. Owning her own home was a dream come true for Mary.
Mary is survived by her two daughters; Maryann Stanisz of Oakville, and Barbara Winkel and her husband Carl, of Watertown; two grandsons, Steve Winkel and his wife Kara, of Monroe, and Robert Winkel and his partner Jessica Williams, of San Jose, CA; as well as two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Connor. She also leaves two brothers-in-law, George Cocco and Edward (Lucy) Stanisz as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 40 years, Mary was predeceased by one sister and three brothers in Poland.
The family wishes to acknowledge and offer their special appreciation to the caring staff at Watertown Convalarium. Your smiles and hugs made her days very special.
Funeral services for Mary will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 574 Main St., Watertown at 10:00 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. To celebrate Mary's "Love of Life" the family requests that those attending wear bright colors.
