WATERBURY CT. Mrs. MaryAlice T. Cruess, age 91, of Waterbury, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness. She was the widow of Robert L. Cruess.
MaryAlice was born in Waterbury, CT on July 13, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Agnes (Quinn) Stokes. She attended Waterbury Catholic High School, graduated from Crosby High School, and then attended NYU where she studied drama. MaryAlice dedicated herself to her family and was always willing to help a family member, friend, or neighbor in need. She was selfless in so many ways, placing others' needs above her own. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and also helped to care for several friends and neighbors. Besides caring for her family, she also worked part time at Saint Mary's Hospital Accounting Department and spent several years working at Saint Patrick's Church Parish House in Waterbury, where she was a long time parishioner. MaryAlice would cook, bake, sew and tend to any needs of the parish or their parishioners and proudly served several terms as President of the Ladies' Guild.
Among her survivors are her four children: Robert A. Cruess and his wife, Anne, of New Hampshire; William J. Cruess and his wife, Alice, of Vermont; Alice (Cruess) and her husband, Guy Tarantello, of Cheshire; and Patrick J. Cruess of Waterbury, with whom Robert and MaryAlice made their home. MaryAlice also leaves her seven loving grandchildren: Sarah (Cruess) and her husband, James Callanan, of Vermont; Erin (Cruess) and her husband, Robert Getschmann, of New Hampshire; Dylan Cruess and his wife, Carrie (Musil), of New Hampshire; Patricia (Tarantello) and her husband, Kent Smith, of New York; Robert Tarantello of Flordia; Joseph Tarantello of Massachussetts; and Galen Cruess of New Hampshire; as well as her four great grandchildren: Miranda and Tyler Smith, Megan Getschmann, and Catherine Cruess.
The Cruess family would like to acknowledge and extend their appreciation and personal thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff of Xavier 3, Telemetry, ICU as well as the Pastoral Care Team at St. Mary's Hospital in addition to the nurses and staff at the Cheshire House for the exceptional care they shared with MaryAlice during her illness.
Funeral Services for MaryAlice T. Cruess will be held on Saturday, March 28th, 2015, at 8:45 a.m. at Eastside Memorial "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME & TRIBUTE CENTER" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd., Waterbury to The Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Rd., Cheshire to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery,Watertown. Family and friends may visit with MaryAlice's family at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 ~ 7:00pm. Memorial donations in MaryAlice's memory may be made to Children's Community School at 31 Wolcott St., Waterbury, CT 06702.
