A wonderful life, well lived
WATERBURY –Matthew Timothy Callahan, age 105, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Village at East Farms. He was the widower of Frances (D’Angelo) Callahan.
Matthew was born on September 10, 1918, in Waterbury, the son of the late Patrick and Margaret (Carmody) Callahan. Matt graduated from St. Mary’s School and Crosby High School. He proudly served his country, honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Hamel in the Pacific Theater. He was one of the few remaining members of the greatest generation. Matt spent his career at Timex Corp in Middlebury, CT as a senior automatic machine design engineer. He traveled the world with his machines instructing workers on their usage. He loved to ski at Okemo Mountain in Vermont and spent a lifetime golfing East Mountain and Western Hills courses. Spending summer days on Cape Cod with his sister and family was his favorite past time. May his memory be an everlasting blessing to all that were blessed to know and love him.
To cherish his memory and honor his legacy, Matt leaves his sister, Sheila Cook, his nephews; Matthew Cook and Terry (Emily) Cook, and his niece, Bridget Cook. He also leaves his grand-nieces, Brittany Caldarola and Caitlin Cook, Julia, Hannah, Claire, and Molly Cook, and grand nephews, Ryan Walsh and Michael Caldarola, as well as many cousins and close friends.
Mere words are but a feeble attempt to thank and acknowledge the entire staff of the Village at East Farms for the care and true love they shared with Matt during his stay there. It enabled him to live out his remaining days in peace and dignity surrounded by their love. Matt epitomized: “ A wonderful life well lived”!
