Honored his country, devoted to his family
WATERTOWN- It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Matthew F. Giordano Jr., age 89, of Watertown, announce his peaceful passing in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 1, 2024. He was the widower of Theresa “Terri” (Slogeris) Giordano to whom he was married to for 54 years.
Matthew was born on August 29, 1934, in Oakville, CT, the son of the late Matteo Sr. and Frances (Cura) Giordano. He attended local schools and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years. After his honorable discharge, Matt went on to work for CL&P for 33 years as a lineman and maintenance worker. He and his wife had the great pleasure of residing in North Myrtle Beach for 22 years. Matthew was an avid Yankees fan and really enjoyed fishing and hunting. Matt was extremely proud of being awarded the Marine of the Year Award in 2015. He was an active member of the Cercemaggiore Community Club, and greatly enjoyed his mornings at Dunkin Donuts and Sal’s Barbershop with his cherished friends, as well as Wednesday breakfasts at Jimmy’s with his CL&P gang and Wednesday night cards with his favorite Italians. Family meant the world to Matthew and he will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to love and know him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his two daughters, Kathy Dibble and her husband, Bruce and Linda Noseworthy and her husband Vic, his grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as “GPOP” to: Scott, Amanda, Kari, Lauren, and Jill, great grandchildren; Colton, Avery, Olivia, and Sophia. He also leaves his very special, lifelong friends, Domenic and Louise Falcone (Terri’s Maid of Honor), along with extended family and many cherished friends. Matt was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew and Domenic Giordano.
A Graveside funeral service with full military honors for Mr. Giordano will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, 669 Platt Road, Watertown CT. There are no calling hours. Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779, has been honored to assist the Giordano family during this difficult time.
