Mr. Melvin Weaver

April 3, 1942 — February 1, 2025

Melvin Weaver, 82, of Waterbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving daughters. Born on April 3, 1942, in Saluda, South Carolina, Melvin later moved to Waterbury, where he attended local public schools including Leavenworth and Croft High with a football scholarship.

A hardworking and determined man, Melvin became a certified Plumbing & Piping Contractor for the State of Connecticut and later became a proud owner of his own business, Mel’s Plumbing. Melvin was also a member of the United Association Local 777 for over 50 years. He had a huge passion for football and was an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball. Melvin found joy in simple pleasures, such as completing word search puzzles, fishing, and reading the Bible; often writing down his favorite scriptures. Melvin was especially looking forward to hosting another big family cookout in 2025. He loved spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and, most of all, delicious Southern meals.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted daughters, Michele Weaver, Alexis Weaver, Kim (Nigel) Nelson of Wolcott, and Sheila Weaver. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Jeanette Powell, Carolyn Hurdle, Rita Billingsley, Valerie Billingsley, and Georgette Billingsley of West Hartford; and his brothers, Willie Lee Simmons Sr of South Carolina and Peter Simmons Sr. of Norristown, PA. Melvin was a proud grandfather to Brandon Weaver, Chantel Weaver, Ricky Harper Jr., Aliyah Saunders, Brennin Nelson, Da’Jour Fluitt, Innis Nelson, Nya Nelson and 5 great- grandchildren. He also leaves behind his long-time companion, Lowrine Anderson, daughter Latisha Anderson, and five grandchildren who loved him dearly. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Sally Weaver Billingsley and Grady Simmons Sr.; his beloved son, Damien Dante Weaver; his sisters, Doris Billingsley-Yates, Barbara Weaver, and Anna Simmons; and his brothers, Danny Simmons and James “Sinbad” Simmons.
