THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL "MICKY" A. CAPUANO
"WWII Veteran"
WATERBURY- Michael "Micky" A. Capuano, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Martha F. (Gwiazdowski) Capuano for 59 years.
Michael was born in Bridgeport, CT. to the late Antonio & Ida (Lariccia) Capuano. Micky came to Litchfield County at the age of 14 to Goshen and Watertown to work on dairy farms until the age of 17. When the war broke out, he enlisted in the service, serving his country in the United States Navy, aboard the USS "Bennett". He served as a cook and gunners mate, seeing action in the "South Pacific Theater." He was Honorably discharged in 1945. When he returned to Watertown, he worked at the Princeton Knitting Mills Co. on Echo Lake Rd. where he met his wife to be, Martha. He worked there until the mill closed after 18 years. He then found employment at Hartley Tool& Dye Co. in Thomaston, CT and remained there for 40 years until his retirement in 2005. He developed a friendship and a unique bond with the company president, Earl "Doc" Hartley, so much so that he was by Docs' side at the time of his death.
Micky was proud of the fact that he was a Charter Member of VFW Post 7330, Oakville, CT. In his free time, Micky enjoyed working in his yard and vegetable garden. He especially enjoyed going in his swimming pool in which he would be in it at 5:00 am every morning, before starting his day! Micky was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching his beloved Red Sox, New England Patriots and UConn Women's' Basketball Team. He also loved watching horse racing, especially the "Triple Crown". Most of all he adored spending time with his grandchildren, taking them to Lake Quassy for an afternoon of fun, family pool parties and barbequing, and watching his two grandchildren, Brian and Erik play little league and Babe Ruth baseball.
Left to remember, cherish and honor Micky's memory, are his two children, Susan M. Solski of Bayonne, NJ, and Michael "Jack" and his wife Lorrie of Bantam; his 4 grandchildren, Michael Solski III and his wife Jill, Melissa Castellano and her husband Michael, Brian Capuano and his wife Lauren, and Erik Capuano; his 3 great grandchildren; Ava, Michael and Gunner, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Cindy Slekis and Roland Gwiazdowski, for their loving care and support during the later years of his life. Besides his wife and parents, Micky is predeceased by his two brothers, Nick Capuano and Pasquale Capuano, and his beloved son-in-law, Michael R. Solski, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Micky will be held on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 16 Buckingham St., Oakville, CT.
