THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE CARING FOR AND ASSISTING THE FAMILY OF MICHAEL CRONK.
On May 19, 2020, Michael W. Cronk entered into the arms of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ and left this world behind.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Oakville and journeyed through the Watertown School system. He was a member of the WHS graduating class of 1977. As a scout, he was a member of troop 52 in Oakville.
Mike spent a lifetime of service to several communities as a First Responder. He first served as an Emergency Medical Technician on several commercial ambulance companies including Campion Ambulance before seeking out to volunteer as a member of Wolcott Ambulance Association. Before choosing to use both his firefighter and EMT skills as a member of the Southbury Training School Fire Department, Mike served as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Watertown. Mike went on to become an EMT-I and later became a paramedic.
He worked in the telecommunications department for Southbury Training School for many years before his retirement. He also worked as a regional dispatcher for the department of Emergency Medical Services prior to their move to the Town of Prospect.
Along the way, Mike had an opportunity to work with his dad, Robert F. Cronk, at Highland Manufacturing. And just like his dad was also a bus driver as he drove school buses filled with children and adults to various events.
Early on Mike worked as a stock clerk for Pik Kwik's grocery store in Watertown and was a paper boy for the Waterbury Republican-American back in the day when they had a morning and evening edition.
Mike could also be seen on stage at Mattatuck Community College either singing bass as part of their choir for which he also served as president. But he could also be found in the drama department performing such routines as Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First".
Mike also helped St. Nick as he took on the role of Santa Claus. He brought smiles to many children at the Shriners Hospital and to Gateway Bible Church, a place he called home.
When he wasn't working, Mike enjoyed ballroom dancing. He entered many State and National competitions bringing home trophies for his artistic moves on the dance floor.
Mike was most recently involved as a member of several Masonic Lodges across the state most notably the Litchfield and Torrington Chapters. He was a member of DeMolay of the Doric Chapter of Waterbury which served as a starting point in his journey as a Mason. He was also a member of the Shriners and Scottish rites.
He was affiliated with the chapters for Eastern Star and Rainbow for Girls for whom he was affectionately referred to as "Dad Cronk".
Mike was the brother to Reverend Robert A. Cronk (Debbie) of Woodbury and chose to live vicariously through the lives of their nine children: his nephews: Rob, Ben, Dana, Alex and Tim, his nieces: Candace (Candy), Sarah, Aimee and Ashley and also several grand-nieces/grand-nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Rubenstein, the Staff at Harold Leever Center and St. Mary's Hospital for their wonderful and compassionate care. We also thank all the First Responders: Fire, Ambulance and Police who put their lives on the line every day. Thank you to the many men and women of the Armed Services.
