Michael F. Goggin

Prospect - Michael F. "Bibber" Goggin, age 78 of Holly Lane, Prospect, formerly of Waterbury, died peacefully at home on Saturday afternoon with his devoted family by his side. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Kennedy) Goggin.

Mr Goggin was born on November 4, 1934 in Waterbury, the son of the late Michael J. and Margaret (Hussey) Goggin. He was a graduate of St Francis Xavier Grammar School, Crosby High School, University of Bridgeport and earned both his Masters Degree and Secondary Administration and Supervision Degree from Central CT State University. Bibber was veteran of the U.S Army and was stationed with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. He was a Teacher with the Waterbury School System for over 33 years and taught at Walsh School, Kennedy High School and retired as the Dept Chair of the Business Department at Wilby High School in 1992. Bibber also worked for the City of Waterbury, Park Department where he was Recreation Director at various parks and rec centers throughout the city. He was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Washington Hill Athletic Club, the Waterbury Lodge of Elks, the 1900 Club of Waterbury and the Waterbury Sportsman Club where he was honored as Sportsman of the Year. He and his wife Betty were also honored by the St. Francis Xavier Alumni Association as Alumnus of the Year. Bibber loved to golf, travel and be around his many, many loyal friends. He was particularly proud of his Irish Heritage. What meant most to Bibber however, was his family. They were always together and never apart. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church, Prospect.

Besides his beloved wife of 52 years, Bibber is survived by his three sons; Stephen J. Goggin and his fiancée, Kenia Rosado of Prospect, James F. Goggin and his wife, Elena of Clinton, and Mark C. Goggin and his wife, Pama of Prospect, his daughter, Maura G. Pace of Beacon Falls, his daughter-in-law, Jacqueline B. Goggin of Waterbury, his 8 grandchildren; Kayla, Stephanie, Colin, Caitlyn, Shannon, Connor, Michael Z. and Alanna. He also leaves 2 brothers, John F. Goggin and his wife, Patricia of Waterbury, Edmond B. Goggin and his wife, Mary of Southington, his sister, Anne Carey of Waterbury, brother-in-law Francis T. Kennedy and his wife, Barbara of Oakville, sister-in-law, Nancy Lass of Terryville and mother-in-law, Mrs. Raymond Ahearn of Waterbury. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends to mourn his loss. He was predeceased by his son, Michael K. Goggin and his brother, Dennis J. Goggin.

Funeral services for Mr. Goggin will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Anthony Church, Prospect with his cousin the Rev. Michael Dolan as the principal celebrant. Those planning to attend are asked to go directly to the church. Rites of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
