.CHESHIRE CT - Michael Hoden, (formerly Hodovanik) age 91 of Cheshire, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St Mary's Hospital surrounded by his children.
Michael was born on December 7, 1925 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Terenty and Helen (Melnik) Hodovanik. He was educated in local schools and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Waterbury for many years. He joined the United States Navy in June of 1943 and proudly served his country as a Carpenter Mate, Third Class aboard the USS Soloman and the USS Hornet during World War II. He was a skilled carpenter and built several homes and churches in the area. He loved to tinker and listen to the radio. Michael was a loving and devoted father who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Among his survivors are his children; Jill Bournival of Cheshire, Barbara Riggs and her husband, Chuck of Terryville, Lynn Hoden-Arthur and her husband, Clifford of Southington and Scott Rosengrant and his wife, Denise of Torrington. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. His eldest great grandson, Cody Bouteiller proudly followed in his footsteps and is a United States Seaman stationed in Norfolk VA aboard the USS Stout. Michael also leaves a sister, Helen Dantino of Waterbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Hoden and sisters, Anne Spino and Mary Spadaro.
Funeral services for Mr. Hoden will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury. Burial with military honors will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Michael's family on Tuesday morning from 9:00 till 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
