Michael J. Kelly, Sr. age 65, passed away peacefully
surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 10th, 2019
at the VITAS HealthCare Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital.
Michael was born on August 10, 1953 in Waterbury, eldest
son of the late John "Jack" Kelly and Theresa (Desbois)
Kelly. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School,
Class of 1971. After high school, Michael attended
UCONN Waterbury Campus. He worked at Somers Thin
Strip for over 10 years as a production manager. He later
became a realtor and mortgage broker, serving the
Greater Waterbury area. In addition, Michael, while living
in Apex, North Carolina, worked as a manager for a fitness
club.
Michael had a sense of adventure and loved to travel and
visited many destinations including St. Maarten, St.
Thomas, and Venezuela. Michael loved the beach,
especially Topsail Island, North Carolina. He taught his
children to swim and enjoyed boogie-boarding and body
surfing with them. Michael was passionate about health
and fitness yet was also an avid espresso drinker. Michael
lived in North Carolina for over a decade, where he loved
the Carolina blue skies and warm weather. He was a
lifelong baseball fan, rooting for the NY Yankees, the
Durham Bulls and his sons' little league teams. For many
years, he coached children's soccer teams through
Carolina Catholic Parish Athletics. He was a lifelong guitar
player and was the guitar soloist for the St. Andrew's
church choir.
Michael fought and won a courageous battle with Stage IV
cancer. He maintained high spirits throughout his
treatment and coined the mantra: "Will to Survive".

Michael is survived by his children, Michael J. Kelly Jr. of
Woodbury, Katelyn, John, and Joseph Kelly, and his
former wife, Kristen (Blinn) Kelly, all of Wolcott. He leaves
behind two siblings, Sharon (Kelly) Kapustinski of Meriden
and Patrick Kelly of Waterbury as well as his Aunt and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael's family would like to thank the entire staff of
VITAS HealthCare for their exceptional and compassionate care.

Funeral services for Michael will be held on Wednesday, July 24th, 2019 at 9:00am from Casey's Eastside Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for a Mass at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Michael's family on Wednesday morning from 830 till 9;30 a.m. at the funeral home.
