Michael Joseph Lynch was born on November 10th, 1949. Sharing his birthday with the United States Marine Corp, Michael seemed destined to volunteer to defend his country. After graduating from the top of his basic training class, Michael served two tours in the Vietnam War as a reconnaissance scout of the 1st Force Recon Company. He received the Navy Achievement Medal with combat “V” ‒ the“V” device denoting valor ‒ for displaying acts of heroism by an individual engaged in direct combat with an enemy of the United States of America. Michael was honorably discharged and awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received during combat. Few heard stories of his experiences in Vietnam, and even fewer of his medals or commendations.
Michael went on to become a skilled and respected high-voltage cable splicer, following in his father’s footsteps. He retired from Sullivan Cable Compan yas a long-time member of the IBEW Local 488. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus,VFW Post 5157, and the American Legion.
