Michael O'Brien

October 17, 1984 — March 26, 2020

Michael John O’Brien, 35, of Wolcott, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury after battling the COVID-19 virus.

Michael was born in Bridgeport, the son of William and Joan (Ward) O’Brien Jr. of Wolcott. He attended Wolcott schools and was homeschooled through his high school years where he earned his GED. While being homeschooled, Michael interned at Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury where he learned lighting, soundboard, and theatrical production. Afterwards, he graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.

On October 5, 2019, Michael married Tara (Ouellette) O’Brien, and the two were never happier. Tara is the daughter of the late Marguerite "Bunny" Ouellette.

Michael was employed by Certified Utility Services. He also enjoyed working as a DJ in venues throughout the area where he entertained people with karaoke and trivia games. Michael helped create lasting memories at weddings and other such events.

Michael had a wide range of interests, including music, theater, astronomy, electronics, and emerging technologies. He was also an avid Star Trek fan. He always made himself available to listen to friends who could use an ear. Mike was also the family birthday cake artist.

Michael trusted in God's will. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Leo the Great Church (Mary Mother of the Church Parish) in Waterbury. He participated in several Marches for Life in Washington, D.C. and volunteered his audio/visual talents to CT Right to Life.

Besides his wife and parents, Michael is survived by a sister, Mary Siobhan O'Brien, two brothers, Christopher James O’Brien of Watertown, WI, and Commander Patrick Liam O’Brien, U.S. Navy Reserves and his wife, Marina, of University Park, MD, along with two nephews, Filip and Stefan, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Due to the pandemic, public visitation and funeral services could not be held in 2020 at the time of Michael’s death. Memorial services will now be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, with a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo The Great Church (Mary Mother of The Church Parish) 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury.
