WATERBURY - Michael J. "Mike" Ryan, age 47 of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his home after a tragic accident.

Mike was born January 9, 1968 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Thomas and Barbara (Ross) Ryan. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and received his Bachelors Degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was also a graduate of Briarwood College where he earned a degree in funeral management and attended St Thomas Seminary. Mike has spent the last several years working at Saints Peter and Paul and St Leo the Great Parishes as a Master of Ceremony. He was also as a mental health vocation counselor for mental health services and a licensed funeral director and embalmer. One of Mike's passions in life was his involvement with the Knights of Columbus. He served as past Grand Knight of the Sheriden Council #24 in Waterbury, faithful navigator of the Bishop Reilly Assembly 0101 as well as a Color Corp Commander and District Warden. He was also member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Waterbury Elks Lodge # 265 and enjoyed golfing at the East Mountain Golf Club.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Schilling and her husband, James of Waterbury in addition to several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins especially Tara Walton and her family of Oakville.

In accordance with Michael's specific wishes, no flowers will be permitted. Rather, in his memory, donations to the Knights of Columbus, Sheridan Council #24, Scholarship Fund PO Box 3459 Waterbury CT 06705 or to the Father McGivney Guild at 1 Columbus Plaza New Haven CT 06510 would be appreciated. As was his nature, Michael was always helping others in every way possible and he was an organ donor thereby touching many others lives in a very special way.

Funeral services for Mr. Ryan will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 9:45a.m. from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury to Saints Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd.to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Michael's family at the funeral home on Monday, December 28, from 4:00 ~ 7:00 pm.
