Mrs. Mildred Louise “Aunt Marianne” Tinney Little
Mrs. Mildred Louise “Aunt Marianne” Tinney Little, age 95, died October 30, 2022.
She passed peacefully at her home in West Orange, New Jersey, surrounded by her loving
nephew, John Q. Mitchell, Jr., his wife, Carol, and son, Lee who resided in the home.
Born September 5, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sr. and
Fannie Tinney and raised in Ansonia, CT. Mildred graduated in 1953 from Ansonia High
School. After graduation she attended Stone Academy in New Haven, CT. “Aunt
Marianne”, as she was affectionally called was a member of the Paugussett Native American
Tribe. She was employed at Uniroyal in Naugatuck, CT., and as a manager for New York Bell
(AT&T) in Manhattan, NY, where she retired after many years of service. She loved watching
TV shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and doing her daily crossword puzzles. In her
younger years, Mildred loved to travel and shop. She collected jewelry from the different
countries she visited. She was soft-spoken with a classy sense of style and poise. People might
have to use a dictionary to have a conversation with her. Mildred was the best Aunt and role
model, who loved her family affectionately and was always there when needed. Her life was a
living example of the Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one
another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Mildred leaves to cherish her memory six nephews, John Q., (Carol) Mitchell, and
Frederick A Mitchell, West Orange, NJ, Jeffrey Mitchell of Baltimore, MD, Timothy (Judy)
Mitchell of Clinton, MD, and Charles Edward (Monalisa) Mitchell of Willimantic CT; seven
nieces, Gwendolyn (William- deceased) Douglas, Lori Mitchell and Jo-Ann Tinney of Kansas
City, MO, Carla (Robert) Bowens and Cheryl Mitchell of Waterbury, Gina (Robert) Tinney-
Moye of Atlanta, GA, and Tracy Mitchell of Willimantic, CT as well their families and a host
of cousins.
Mildred is preceded by her husband, Mr. Couthan J. Little; her sister, Mrs. Florence A.
Mitchell, her brother, Mr. Charles E. Tinney, Jr.; and nephew, Mr. Dale Mitchell.
“Aunt Marianne’s” infectious smile and tender love will truly be missed by all.
