Devoted to his family and his community
WATERBURY - It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Michael Dean, age 74 of Waterbury, share the news of his peaceful passing on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Complete Care of Middlebury. He was the devoted husband of Stephanie (Coleman) Dean.
Mr. Dean was born on October 23, 1949, in Waterbury, the son of the late Ernest Scott and Ruth (Robinson) Dean. Having moved to Greenville, SC at an early age, he was educated in local schools and received his early training in healthcare in the U.S. Air Force where he honorably served his country. There he learned radiology which led him to get his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. He worked for more than 20 years in the ICU of the Greenville Hospital System. Michael was a sterling example of everything good, humility, honesty, integrity and generosity. He loved his career in nursing and enjoyed being a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was also a dedicated member of the Goodwill Lodge of Elks #1325 Waterbury and the New England States and Eastern Canada Association of the Improved, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World where he served as the Director of the Region I Education Department and held the highest accolades in Elkdom as a Past Grand Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed computers, circus peanuts and Pepsi and was the “ultimate listener”! Michael was exceptional in almost every way, but he excelled the most at being a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Family was always his highest priority. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to cherish his memory besides his devoted wife, Stephanie are his children; Pamela Dendy McDuffie (Kim) and Todd Cornelius Dendy of Simpsonville SC, Yolonda Finch (Courtenay) of Newman GA, Yvette Sapp of Waterbury, Yakrisha Wilson (Mark) of Union City, GA, Tammy Turner of Rochester, NY, Christine Shorter (Willie) of Newark NY and Darius White (Jeanis)of Waterbury. Two brothers, Ernest (Odessa)Dean of Zelienople, PA and Gregory Dean of Greenville, SC. Michael was predeceased by two sons: Anthony Lagroone and Julian Michael Dean, his granddaughter, Kassandra Harris and his brother, Ronald Dean. He also leaves many grandchildren and many, many great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, extended family members and friends.
