Ms. Shirley Marie Zeiner

November 18, 1926 — February 25, 2011

AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - Waterbury - Ms. Shirley Marie Zeiner, age 84, of Heritage Village Southbury, died peacefully Friday, February 25, 2011 at Waterbury Hospital, after a brief illness.

Shirley was born November 18th 1926 in New Haven, CT., the daughter of the late Fredrick Eugene and Marine (Lyhne)Zeiner. Shirley grew up in Milford CT where she was educated in local schools. She worked at Sikorsky Aircraft for 33 years in personnel and as the first female security guard until her retirement. She moved to the Southbury in 1958 before retiring to Beaver Cove Maine in 1993 where she lived for ten years before relocating back to Heritage Village in Southbury.

Shirley was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered for many organizations including the Southbury Public Library Children's Department, Ready Workers Club in Beaver Cove Maine, and the Beaver Cove Historical Society. She was a member of the Heritage Village Stitch and Chat Club, the Moose Head Riders snowmobile club, and was a Cluster Captain of Condo 3 in Heritage Village. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, reading, cooking and politics. She was a staunch Republican.

Among her survivors are her nieces, Lisa Trenske of Waterbury, and Erika Schmitt of Wisconsin. Her nephews, Daniel Trenske of New Milford, Robert Trenske and his wife Kathleen of Manhattan NY, and Bill Mumley of Wolcott, as well as her beloved cats M.J. & Molly. She is predeceased by her sister, Dorothy Mark, and her brother, Robert Zeiner.

Her family would like to thank Doctor McKenzie Smith of Waterbury Hospital and the nursing staff of Pomeroy 9 at Waterbury hospital for the wonderful care and support they had provided to Shirley.

A memorial service for Ms. Zeiner will be held on March 12th 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Waterbury, 222 West Main Street Waterbury, CT. There are no calling hours. A private burial was held in Kings Highway Cemetery on March 5th.
