WOODBURY - Nancy M Calo, 85, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at home, surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late Arthur and Marion Sullivan, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, John Calo Sr.
Nancy graduated from Crosby High School and then graduated from the nursing program at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She remained at St. Mary's Hospital as an employee after graduation and then went on to work as a private duty nurse. Nancy also dedicated a portion of her time as a volunteer at various local blood drives. She was a devout parishioner of St. Teresa's church in Woodbury, CT where she also participated in a rosary group. Nancy was a dedicated wife, a loving and compassionate mother and grandmother, and will be remembered by all as the calm, caring and devoted friend that she was to all who knew her.
Nancy leaves behind her nine surviving children - Joseph and his wife Nancy, Deborah and her husband Randy, Anne, Marybeth, James, Jeffrey, Jeanne and her husband Eric, Michael and his wife Angela, Jennifer and her husband Chris. She also leaves 21 grandchildren Molly, Libby, Emily, Jed, Abbie, Sara, Layla, Jake, Nancy, Samantha, Max, Hannah, Rebecca, Andrew, Kealy, Alexa, Savannah, Olivia, Gabrielle, Michael, Camelia and 4 great grandchildren Kallysta, Isaiah, Nathan, and Carter, her son-in-law Jack Tarleton and sister-in-laws Marie Generali and Janice Calo as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson Joshua, her son John, and daughter Kathleen, her brother's Arthur and Jack Sullivan, and sisters Jeanne Russo and Marge Cyr, as well as sister-in-laws Delores Romaniello, Toni Sullivan and Margaret Schuster, brother-in-laws Leonard Calo, Ralph Schuster and son-in-law Norman Evans.
Funeral services for Mrs. Calo will be held on Thursday August 29, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Woodbury, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Those wishing to attend the funeral mass are requested to go directly to the church for 9:45 am. The Rite of Committal will follow at the New North Cemetery in Woodbury. Family and friends may visit with Nancy's family on Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Eastside Memorial, "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER" 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd in Waterbury. Memorial donations can be made in Nancy's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
