"Registered Nurse, beloved Mother and Grandmother"
MIDDLEBURY - Norma Beatrice (Everly) Corbett, RN, age 85 of 62 North Street, Middlebury, CT passed away peacefully on April 18, 2017 at Waterbury Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Pawtucket, RI to Chester and Beatrice Everly on November 18, 1931, Norma went to Pawtucket schools and graduated with honors from West Senior High School in 1949. She then came to Waterbury and attended the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1953. Norma met her future husband at the hospital, H. J. Corbett, Jr. whose father, Dr. Herbert J. Corbett MD, introduced them.
Norma worked at Waterbury Hospital for over 40 years where she spent most of her career as a nursing supervisor. Norma aka "the Battleship" loved her job. She was well liked. It was said "You always knew where you stood with Norma. There was no in-between." She was a member of the Waterbury Auxilliary, the Evergreen Club, and the TGIF Club at Waterbury Hospital.
She leaves five children: Kym Corbett of Arlington Heights, IL, Herbie and Toni Corbett of Prospect, Garth Corbett and his companion Marianne Papa of Branford, Chet Corbett and Martin Corbett of Middlebury. She leaves 10 grandchildren: Sam, Corbett, and Lauren Ball, Nina Corbett and her boyfriend Dom Verbickas, Christian, Mitchell Carmen, Devon, Emma, Garth, Simon and Martin Corbett and three great-grandchildren: Eleanor Ball, Carver Ball and Hailey Corbett. She also leaves her sister-in-laws Nancy Russell, and Judy and James Pierpont of Southbury, her brother-in-laws: Craig and Gerri Corbett of Middlebury and Lloyd and Judy Corbett of Naugatuck, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, H.J. Corbett, Jr. in 1996 after 43 years of marriage and her son-in-law Steven Ball.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Corbett will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Middlebury Congregational Church, 1242 Whittemore Road, Middlebury, CT at 9:30 AM. A memorial gathering will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main Street @ 40 Southmayd Road, Waterbury has been entrusted with the arrangements.
