AT THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME*: Orrin L. Johnson, age 65, of Nova Scotia Hill Rd. Watertown, died unexpectedly, Friday evening at his home.
Mr. Johnson was born in Viborg, South Dakota on September 6, 1942, the son of the late Merlin Johnson and Alice (Engel) Johnson of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm. He was a graduate of Freeman High School in Freeman, South Dakota, graduating from South Dakota State University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and numerous advanced education programs throughout the country. He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. dealers for the last 32 years; most recently by the HO Penn Machinery Company in Poughkeepsie NY as Vice President, Customer Satisfaction Management and Special Projects. Early in his career, he worked on various Dam Projects in California and New Mexico. He designed a system to maintain the structural integrity of the ceiling of the Oakland Coliseum. He was Past President of Fundraising for the Casper Troopers, WY. His family and friends always were first in his life. He delighted in travel, an avid race car fan, following politics, gardening, restoring houses and working with youth.
Orrin married Sharon Hanson of Philip, SD, on July 21, 1963. Besides his loving wife of 45 years, Orrin leaves four children; Scott Johnson of Eaton Colorado, Craig Johnson of Casper, Wyoming, Matthew Johnson of Tecumseh, OK and Carrie McCoy of Tecumseh OK. Besides his mother of Pelican Rapids MN he leaves two sisters, Carol Lay of Mosinee, WI and Judy Hoadley of Pelican Rapids MN. He had 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 3:00pm at the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St. Oakville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home for viewing on Wednesday from 1pm until the service at 3:00pm.
