THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF PATRICIA MELLITT

WOLCOTT - Patricia Elizabeth Dwyer Mellitt, age 81, passed away peacefully at home in Wolcott, CT, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.

She was born on October 10, 1937 in New York City to Helen Dwyer St. John and William Dwyer. An extraordinarily bright young woman, Pat graduated from Long Island City High School at the age of 16. She went on to attend Good Counsel College (now Pace University), where she studied English, writing her thesis on F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Jazz Age. Pat continued to be a voracious reader of all genres of literature throughout her life. Spending a quiet afternoon with a good book was one of her great pleasures.
On August 27, 1960, Pat married Roger Mellitt, also of New York City. Together they moved to Waterbury, CT, where they raised their four children and were active members of St. Margaret's Catholic Church. Pat loved Waterbury and was an integral part of the local community. She worked as administrative assistant to the CEO of Webster Bank for more than 25 years and was currently serving as liaison to the board of directors at the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce, a position she held for nearly a decade.
Among Pat's many and varied hobbies were going to the theater, playing bridge and mah jong, doing crossword puzzles, and quilting. She made anniversary quilts for each of her children and their spouses and made all of her grandchildren quilts when they graduated from high school. The younger ones who haven't yet graduated received their quilts this past Christmas as a special gift. Pat was a proud and loving grandmother who made sure to attend her grandchildren's many sporting events, concerts, and theater performances. As busy and active as she was, Pat was a homebody at heart, happiest to be looking out at Lake Hitchcock from her living room window with a cup of coffee (or a glass of Chardonnay) in her hand and her pets in her lap. Pat will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Bradford) Melius, Roger (Jennifer) Mellitt, Timothy (Susan) Mellitt, and Daniel (Kristen) Mellitt; twelve grandchildren (Bradford, John, William, Joseph, Margaret, Katherine, Erin, Gordon, Brendan, Abigail, Ryan, and Lauren); as well as her dog, Daisy, and her two cats, Rudy and Martin. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Roger, her mother, Helen St. John, and her fathers, William Dwyer and Raymond St. John.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mellitt will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Bridget's of Sweden Church, Cheshire at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev John Mellitt, Principal Celebrant. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with Pat's family on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 2 till 5 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury CT 06705. To honor Pat's memory and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Community School, P.O. Box 1746, Waterbury, CT 06721, to continue and in honor of Pat's and the Mellitt family's longtime involvement with and support of the school.
