WATERBURY - Patrick J. Gorman age 87 of Waterbury CT, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2015, at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit of St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness. He was the devoted husband of Ruth (Reed) Gorman.
Patrick was born July 8, 1928 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Joseph and Sadie (Ramsey) Gorman. He was educated in local schools and proudly served his country with the US Marines during World War II and was a former member of the American Legion. Pat spent 33 years working for the Sealy Mattress Company retiring as a supervisor in 1983. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church and spent 27 years coaching baseball, and basketball for the area grammar schools and CYO. During his coaching career he received several awards for his dedication to coaching the youth of greater Waterbury. He was a diehard NY Yankees fan and extremely proud of his Irish Heritage but what was most important to Pat was his family. He cherished the time spent with them especially his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Besides his wife Ruth, of 63 years, Patrick is survived by his children; Patrick and his wife, Darcie of Laguna Beach CA, Daniel and his wife, Linda of Watertown, Laura Gorman and her partner Bridget Tartaro of Naugatuck, Andrew and his wife, Philomena of Waterbury, and Ruth Haines and her husband, John of Kirtland OH. He also leaves his sister in law, Angela Gorman of Oakville as well as his six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son, Thomas Gorman.
Funeral services for Mr. Gorman will be held on Monday October 26, 2015 at 10:00am from Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St Waterbury to Saint Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will follow in Old Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Family and friends may visit with Patrick's family at the funeral home on Sunday, October 25th, from 2 - 5 pm.
