THE CASEY FAMILY IS HONORED TO BE ASSISTING AND CARING FOR THE FAMILY OF PAUL LONGO
Paul Francis Longo of Southbury, CT, beloved brother, husband, father, and Papa passed away with his family by his side on December 7th, 2020. He was predeceased by his loving wife Edwina C. Longo in 2014, whom he cared for during a long illness.
Paul was born in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Ralph and Christine (Grego) Longo on January 26, 1937 and lived there most of his life. He proudly served in the United States Army out of high school, apprenticed as a toolmaker at General Machine, and worked for American Brass in its heyday. Paul was incredibly proud of his work and often told stories of his favorite business trip to Scotland. He also loved to reminisce on his days in the army from which he held many interesting-and sometimes wild-memories.
In the 1980's Paul could often be seen on the tennis courts of Waterbury teaching his daughter how to play tennis at a young age and this became their favorite activity. Every day after school Tracey would look forward to visiting the courts with her dad and bonding over their love of sports. His praise, love and support throughout her life is something she will never forget.
Paul also had a very special connection with his granddaughter, Katherine. Paul was the type of grandfather who was happy to play a Disney Princess board game, watch children's shows, and participate in all kinds of activities Katherine enjoyed as a child. As she grew older, he was so proud to see her following in her mother's footsteps playing tennis, and he attended many of her matches along with her high school band concerts. More recently they enjoyed lively discussions about current events and history. He truly embodied the definition of a "family man."
Apart from his love for his family, Paul was also passionate about golf. He grew up playing with his brother, Ralph and continued to play as frequently as he could into his old age. This was also an activity he would share with his granddaughter from time-to-time. His favorite professional golfer was Tiger Woods.
Left to cherish his memory, Paul leaves behind many loving family members: his daughter, Tracey Hynes, her husband Kenneth, and their daughter Katherine, who all cared for him in his last days; his daughter Donna Manacchio and her husband Fred; his brother, Ralph Longo, and his wife Ruth (McGrath) Longo; as well as his niece Laurie and nephew Laurie as well as many cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Paul Longo will be private and at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours. Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 E. Main Street at Southmayd Road, Waterbury, CT 06705, has been honored to assist the Longo Family at this difficult time.
Paul was a best friend and family hero. He will be loved forever and missed dearly.
