CHESHIRE CT - Pauline Olive (Austin) Hickey, age 96, of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26th 2013 at the Alzheimer Resource Center of Connecticut in Plantsville. She was the widow of William F. Hickey to whom she was married to for 56 years.
Pauline was born May 10th 1917 in Watertown CT, the daughter of the late George J. and Corinne (Laneville) Austin. Her mother passed away when she was a child and she was raised by George and Elizabeth Walters and subsequently by Lila LaPlante Pride and Florence Walters. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and worked as a secretary for the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., before marrying William in 1942. After dedicating herself to her family for several years, she worked as a secretary at Thomaston Savings Bank in Waterbury and was a licensed real estate agent with John J. Rowe Realty Ltd. in Watertown. Pauline was a long time resident of Watertown, before she moved to Cheshire and was an avid golfer and a former member of the Watertown Golf Club and Crestbrook Park Golf Course for many years. She was a craft enthusiast and enjoyed playing bridge and was a longtime parishioner of St John the Evangelist Church in Watertown and more recently, St. Bridget's Church in Cheshire. Among her survivors are her son, William F. Hickey III and his wife Patricia of Cheshire, her granddaughter Lauren Magoun and her husband Steve of Arlington, MA and her two great grandsons Jack and Nate as well as a step-grandson David Dinatali.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hickey will held on Saturday December 7th, 2013 at 10:00am from Eastside Memorial "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER" 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT to Saints Peter and Paul Church 54 Southmayd Rd Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will follow in New Saint Joseph's Cemetery Hamilton Ave Waterbury, CT Relatives and family may visit with the Hickey family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:00am The family would like to acknowledge and thank the Alzheimer's Resource Center of Plantsville and the Southmayd home of Waterbury for the loving care and attention they provided to Pauline over the past several years.
