Mr. Pedro Velez

Devoted to his faith and family 

WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that the family of Pedro Velez, age 93 cherished husband, father and grandfather announce his peaceful passing on Friday September 27, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Lucila Vargas Velez for 70 wonderful years.  

Mr. Velez was born on January 20, 1931 in Arecibo Puerto Rico the son of the late Juan and Maria (Roman) Velez. Pedro retired after 20 years of service to the State of CT, Commission of Human Rights and Opportunities where he was a caseworker and investigator. He also worked part time for 17 years as a radio announcer for 5 different radio stations in Waterbury and Hartford. Pedro was most passionate about sharing his faith with everyone, everywhere all the time. He loved talking about his memories of his mom, sister and 9 brothers and his beloved island of Puerto Rico.  

Left to cherish his memory, besides his wife, Lucila are his 6 children: Edith, Diane, Peter, Ani, Rose and Alma his 9 granddaughters and 5 grandsons. We his family miss him already, but he is more alive now than ever before. So, for now, we will cherish all the memories we have and hold them close until we see him again. We read in sacred scripture; ” JOHN 11:25 I am the resurrection and the Life, He that believes in Me though he were dead, yet shall he live”.” That was our dads belief, as it is ours. Thank you, Jesus, for giving him to us” 

Funeral services for Mr. Velez will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury CT 06705. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Entombment. Relatives and friends may visit with Pedro’s family on Friday morning from 10:00 until the service at noon at the funeral home.
