AT THE CASEY-O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME

WATERBURY - Peter Joseph Schilpp Sr., 48, of Waterbury, formerly of Prospect, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at his home with his family by his side. He was the husband of April (McBreairty Scofield) Schilpp.

Peter was born May 8, 1963, in New Haven, the son of Joseph and Ada Schilpp of Bethany. He attended Eli Whitney Technical School in New Haven, where he learned plumbing and heating. He worked for Janazzo before joining the Bethany Department of Public Works. He was often seen in town carrying out the duties of the department, which included plowing, clearing trees, fixing roads and mowing. He was an employee of the town for more than 20 years before leaving due to illness. Peter loved fishing, camping and going to NASCAR races, especially when he could spend time with his family and friends. He also loved trains and built many different layouts. He was happiest when he could be outside sitting by a campfire or walking in the woods with the dog, but also loved listening to the rain on the roof of the camper. He never met a stranger and within five minutes was able to make the person he was talking to feel like they had known each other forever. He could make a bad day better and light up a room with his smile. He will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a son, Peter Schilpp Jr. of Bethany; a daughter, Samantha Schilpp of Prospect; a stepson, Chris Scofield of Jewett City; two sisters, Jo-Ann Barrett of Waterbury and Linda Hitchcock of Vermont; aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves his brother of choice, Mark Paparello of Florida; his best friend and copilot, Rocky; He also leaves his former wife, Susan (Finn) Schilpp and many extended family members and friends.

A Memorial Service for Peter will be held Friday, March 16, at 7 p.m. at the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main Street. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00-7:00p.m. In grateful appreciation for the care provided to Peter and his family and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Waterbury VNA Hospice, 50 Brookside Rd, Waterbury, CT 06708; or to the American Liver Foundation, 127 Washington Ave, North Haven, CT 06473.
