OAKVILLE - Philip L. Hardt, Sr. age 76 of Oakville, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 with his loving family by his side after a long courageous battle with asbestosis. He was the son of the late Louis and Irene (Dzinski) Hardt. He was the husband of Virginia A. (Hart) Hardt and he will be sadly missed by his loving supportive family and close, dearest friends.
Phil served his country proudly as a US Marine from 1957-1961. He worked at Uniroyal Chemical Company as pipefitter for 32 years. He also served his community of Oakville / Watertown on the Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years, as a Fire-fighter and also held the positions as Lt. and Captain. Upon his retirement he and his wife spent 18 years in Ocala, Florida where he enjoyed the warm sunny days. His many passions included being on a horse farm, bird watching, watching NASCAR racing and his family.
Besides his wife Virginia of 54 years, Phil leaves his two sons, Philip Hardt, Jr. of Ocala, Florida, David Hardt and his wife, Roberta of Oakville, his siblings; Mary Welton her husband Robert of Texas, Joanne Boucher her husband Raymond of Watertown, Louis Hardt his wife Diane of Watertown, Patricia Gilbode of Watertown, Debbie Venditto, of Southington, Diane Hardt, of Watertown, and sister in-law Mary Lorraine Hart, of Harwinton. He also leaves his adoring grandchildren, Amanda Hardt Casey, Christopher Hardt, Olivia Hardt and two great- grandchildren, Tyler, and Logan Casey, along with several nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his brother William (Billy) Hardt, and his brother-in-law Thomas Gilbode.
Funeral services with full Military and Fire Departmental honors for Mr. Hardt will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church 16 Buckingham St. Oakville, CT at 9:00a.m. Those planning on attending are kindly asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, in Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Philip's family on Wednesday evening, May 3rd at The O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville from 5p.m. to 8p.m. Memorial contributions in Phil's name can be made to the Watertown Volunteer Fire Department 935 Main Street Watertown, CT 06795.
