Middlebury - Mr. Philip I. Kampner age 88 of Middlebury, passed away at his home on Monday September 2nd 2013 surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Gershin) Kampner.
Mr. Kampner was born June 10th 1925 in New Haven CT, the son of the late Paul and Mollie (Hirsch) Kampner. He was a graduate of Crosby High School Class of 1943 and proudly served his country during WWII as a second LT Bombardier with the United States Army Air Force. After being honorably discharged he began working in his family business "State Paint" where he managed and operated many aspects of the business for over 65 years until his retirement. Phil was well known by his customers and he enjoyed taking time to assist each and every customer providing them with advice and help on projects of all sizes.
Philip was very involved in many civic and Jewish organizations in the area. He was a board member for Easter Seals Association, The Waterbury Child Guidance Clinic, The Waterbury Chamber of Commerce and he was a founding member of the Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor, a founding member of American Air Museum in Britain, a board member and former Vice President of the Beth El Synagogue, the chairman of the Mayor's Committee on Drug Abuse and a member of the free Mason's Harmony Lodge. One of the most important things to Philip was his family whom he adored and cherished. He treasured and enjoyed spending time with them especially his grandchildren and great grandson.
Among his survivors are his son, Ronald Kampner and his wife Pam of North Ferrisburgh, VT and their two children, Melissa Kampner of NYC; and Matthew Kampner and his wife Delia and their son Owen of CA. as well as his brother, Jack Kampner of Hallandale FL. He is predeceased by his brother, Arthur Kampner
Funeral services for Mr. Kampner will be held on Wednesday, September 4th 2013 at 12:00 noon at Eastside Memorial, "A CASEY FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND TRIBUTE CENTER", 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd Waterbury. Burial will follow in Beth El Cemetery Waterbury.
