Devoted to her family and her faith
WATERBURY– It is with great sadness and sense of loss that we announce the unexpected passing of Philomena “Phylis” (Cortese ) Egan age 92 of Waterbury on Wednesday December 27, 2023. She was the widow of John L. Egan.
Phylis was born July 5, 1931, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Frances (Clemente) Cortese. She was educated in local schools and first worked for John Hancock Insurance prior to raising her family. Once her children were raised, she went to work for the City of Waterbury Parking Authority where she was employed for over 46 years. Phylis persevered after the loss of her husband, assuring that her family remained strong and together. She was a woman of great faith but what was most important to Phylis was her family, especially her grandchildren. Our family thanks you, Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for the thousands of hugs you shared with us, and for the unending love you instilled in all of us. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory, are her four sons and their families: Joseph Egan of Delray Beach FL, Brian Egan and his wife Karen of Waterbury, John Egan and his wife Alzira of Waterbury and Kevin Egan of Watertown. Phylis was blessed with three grandchildren who adored their Mimi, John, Andrea and Sabrina as well as her sister, Lorraine DiSapio of Waterbury and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Egan will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2024, when a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church 858 Highland Ave Waterbury.
