Mr. Raymond Charles Lariviere

March 14, 1929 — January 3, 2024

The patriarch of Park Road

WATERBURY - Mr. Raymond Charles Lariviere, age 94, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

Raymond was born on March 14, 1929, in Waterbury, CT, son of the late George and Helen (Dell) Lariviere. He was a lifelong Waterbury resident, graduating from Russel School and Leavenworth High School. Raymond proudly served this great country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning from his service, Raymond operated the Robinwood Variety Store for several years and then went on to work for the J.E. Smith Lumber Company, until his retirement. Raymond and his family were active members of the Quassapaug Yacht Club for many years where many of their best memories were made. Raymond was an avid Boston Red Sox, and UConn Huskies fan through and through. Ray enjoyed gardening and working on his lawn and was once recognized by the State’s General Assembly for doing his part to keep Waterbury beautiful. Cherished family memories were made in their many trips to Cape Cod, Winston, Salem, North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Always wanting to stay active, Ray could be seen, often seven days per week at the Brass Mill Center Mall where he and his friends (some old, some new) would walk, talk, argue about sports, and solve other worldly dilemmas one lap at a time. Raymond will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his brother Vincent LaRiviere and his wife Peggy of Riverside CA, children; Denise Lariviere and her husband Kevin Meenan of Pasadena CA, Daniel LaRiviere of Waterbury, Pamela LaRiviere of Waterbury, Christopher and his wife Tina of Wterbury, and Matthew LaRiviere of Wolcott, his 7 grandchildren: Kate Santarchangelo, Joseph Meenan, Melanie LaRiviere, Carolyn Brinker, Matthew Bounomo, Kyle LaRiviere, and Joshua LaRiviere, his 5 great grandchildren Matteo, Olivia, John, Wyatt, and Liam, and his former wife Ms. Susan Gilyard. Raymond was predeceased by his siblings: George, Virgina, Earl and Robert.

Raymond’s family wishes to offer their most heartfelt thanks to the caring hospice team from Hartford Healthcare (especially Christina, Larissa, Marie, Pam and Cecilia) and the loving and compassionate care provided by Gail of Emerest Home Care. You all truly embody both the scope and spirit of your chosen profession we are forever grateful that our father was a recipient of your compassion and care.
