Devoted to his family
WATERBURY – It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Richard (“Rick”) A. Buell announce his unexpected passing on Friday April 19, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was the devoted husband of Patricia (“Patti”) Donnelly Buell of 51 years.
Rick was born in Waterbury, CT, on February 1, 1952, the son of the late Edward H. and Mary Kelly Buell. A lifelong Waterbury resident, Rick was educated locally with advanced studies from the CT School of Broadcasting. He was also known for his endless commitment to his family. At the heart of Rick's engaging larger than life personality was his genuine kindness and warmth, effortlessly making others feel valued and appreciated with a warm smile or a hearty laugh. His boundless compassion led him to sense when someone needed support and he never hesitated to offer his unwavering presence.
Rick was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had a passion for classic cars and the Boston Red Sox. He was often found on the road with Patti visiting their children from coast to coast. Rick loved entertaining, movies, music festivals, making jokes, and enjoying time with his grandkids. He was fiercely loyal to his family with an unending capacity to love. He was a giant of everything good: humility, integrity, generosity. His family is endlessly grateful for every prayer he uttered for them, for the many sacrifices he made, for the thousands of hugs he shared, and for the unending love he instilled. Rick lived a dignified and charitable life, often spending Sundays as a Eucharistic minister at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and was actively involved in St. Mary’s grammar school and Holy Cross HS.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his wife Patti and their eight children: Richard of Santa Monica, CA, Jennifer (Christina Licursi) of Dover, MA, Keith of Cottonwood, AZ, Shawn of Waterbury, Ryan (Rachel) of Ashburn, VA, Catherine (Chris) Molitoris of Canton, MA, Morgan (Eric) Gallion of Medfield, MA, and Allison of Nashville, TN. Rick and Patti are blessed with seven grandchildren: Avery (17), Caiden (8), McKenzie (7), Finnegan (3), Seamus (9m), Alice (2), Dean (7m). He will forever live in their hearts and minds. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ellyn Babo, Cynthia Bardelli, and Edward Buell Jr.
