AT THE CASEY - O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME Waterbury ?" Richard C. "Poppy" Pierce Sr., age 69, of Stonefield Dr. Waterbury, died unexpectedly Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lorraine (Bergin) Pierce.

Mr. Pierce was born in Waterbury on October 13, 1939, the son of the late Charles and Mary (Nejakowski) Pierce. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and was employed for many years as a toolmaker, most recently at Toolcraft Engineering. Richard was an avid sports fan, especially boxing but most of all he was a loving grandfather who devoted most of his life to his children and grandchildren. He was a parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Richard is survived by two children, his son, Richard C. Pierce Jr. of Waterbury and his daughter Tammy Pierce also of Waterbury, 5 grandchildren, Tiffany Pina, Desiree Pina, Scott Pierce, Ryan Pierce and Elias Pina and one great grandson, Sonny Christiano. He also leaves three sisters, Helene Conrad, Darlene Roberts and Marlene Regan. Mr. Pierce was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Pierce and brother Charles Pierce.

Funeral services for Mr. Pierce will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 9:00am from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St Waterbury to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7pm.
