WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Richard J. Cooper, age 77, of Waterbury, shares news of his peaceful passing on Monday, March 31, 2025 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Sharon M. (Larrabee) Cooper.
Richard was born on March 9, 1948 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Thomas F. Cooper and Catherine (Mahoney) Cooper. A lifelong Waterbury resident, he attended local schools and worked as a Machinist for Risdon/ Rexam for 55 years. An avid Boston Red Sox fan, Richard held a special place in his heart for the game and all its thrilling moments. Richard helped raise his siblings, loved spending time outdoors, particularly through fly fishing, a pastime he loved to share with family and friends. His enthusiasm for teaching others how to cast a line and reel in a catch provided many with unforgettable memories. Richard found immense joy at Harkness State Park, often seen enjoying the beach and the natural beauty surrounding him. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his loving family, especially his wife, Sharon. His legacy will live on through the stories he told, the lessons he taught, and the love that he shared. May he find eternal rest and peace beyond measure and may he never be forgotten.
In addition to his devoted wife, Sharon of 33 years, Richard leaves behind his grandsons; Cori Theriault and his wife Deirdre of Meriden, Ernest King III of Bristol, Patrick King of Bristol and Michael Hayes of Willington, his grandchild; Shai Mancarella of Meriden, his siblings; Catherine Theriault and her husband Roger of Waterbury, Thomas Cooper and his wife Maurie of Newtown and Ellen Knutson and her husband Hebert of Prospect. He was predeceased by his son, Ernest King II, his daughter, Wendy King and his sisters; Joanna McCarthy, Mary Esther Quattro and Sheila Cooper. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
All services will be held privately at the convenience of his family. A memorial mass in his honor will be held at a later date.
