Best Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather and Great-grandfather
WOLCOTT - Richard Joseph "Poppy" Hart Sr., age 70 of Wolcott, passed away peacefully on Friday October16, 2020 at Saint Mary's Hospital, Vitas Innovative Hospice Care Unit, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness. He was the husband of Janet (Hall) Hart for 39 loving years.
Richard was born in Waterbury on February 10, 1950 to the late Betty Perugini and Edward Hart. Richard and his wife Janet made their home in Wolcott. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam war as a medic in Okinawa and Guam. He was a caring and dedicated nurse for 40 years. He started as an LPN then returned to school for his R.N. then B.S.N. He worked at Waterbury Hospital for 18 years and then at Cedar Lane Rehab and finally, Hospital for Special Care for 26 years until his retirement in 2015. He was an avid golfer. He played at East Mountain, Stanley, and Hunters golf courses. He also enjoyed woodworking. He made many lawn ornaments and furniture. He also loved music even though he couldn't carry a tune.
Left to honor Richards's love and legacy besides his wife Janet is his son Richard J. Hart Jr. and his children Grace and Adam, Richard's daughter Vonnie Hart and her son Jelani, his sisters Peggy(Donald) Difronzo, Cynthia(Lee) Conard, Marylou Hopkins, and Audrey Hart, and his brothers Harry (Cindy) Hart and Tommy (Debbie) Hart, his Step-daughter, Cassy Diogostine, her husband John Diogostine and her son David Morin and his wife Meghan Morin along with their children Lincoln and Rowan, Cassy's son John Morin and his wife Christine and their son Jordan, and Cassy and John Diogostine's son Damon Diogostine. Richard also left behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard is predeceased by his mother and father, Edward and Betty Hart and sister, Sharon Ouellette and brother, David Hart.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of his nurses that took such tremendous care of him while in the hospice unit at Saint Mary's Hospital.
Funeral services for Richard Hart will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with his family on Friday October 23, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home, 1987 East Main St. Waterbury, CT 06705, at a "walk-through visitation" following all applicable state COVID - 19 guideline.
