AT THE CASEY - O'DONNELL FAMILY FUNERAL HOME - WATERBURY - Richard J. Sugden ?"age 90, of 380 Hitchcock Rd. Waterbury, died Friday December 4, 2009 at Saint Mary's Hospital after a extended illness. He was the husband of Margaret (Flynn) Sugden.
Mr. Sugden was born November 27, 1919 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Raymond and Hazel (Nitche) Sugden. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, where he served in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945. Upon his return from the war, he was employed at Reymond's Bakery where he worked as the sales supervisor for 35years before his retirement. Richard was a long time active member of the Knights of Columbus, Sheriden Council, Waterbury, where he served as a fourth degree knight and held various positions including trustee. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Knights of Columbus Golf league and a parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church.
Besides his wife of 63 years, Richard leaves his son, Richard J. Sugden Jr. of Waterbury, his brother and sister in law, James and Rose Mary Flynn of Wolcott and his dear cousin, Josephine Fenn of Oakville and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Sugden will be held on Monday, December7, 2009, at 10:30 am from the Casey-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 1581 East Main Street, Waterbury to SS. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in New Saint Josephs Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3 ?" 5pm.
