WATERTOWN - Mr. Richard D. Johnston, age 79 of Watertown passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at The Vitas Innovative Care Unit at St Mary's Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness, He was the widower of Christine (Bannon) Johnston and the husband of Marsha (Mahoney) Johnston.
Richard was born January 2nd 1942 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late James and Katherine (Brown) Johnston. He was a graduate of Croft high school and proudly served his country with the US Army during the Vietnam War Era. Richard spent many years working as a cable splicer for CL&P before his retirement in 2000. Richard was a member of the Waterbury Elks Club and was a devote catholic. He enjoyed traveling and his many trips to Ireland and enjoyed spending winters at his home in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Richard adored his grandchildren and could always be seen and heard from the sidelines from any of their sporting events clearly sharing his opinions and support.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife, Marsha of 41 years, are his children Richard A. Johnston and his wife, Kristina of Torrington, and Christine Miller and her husband, Eric of Watertown. He also leaves his brother Gerry; sisters Judy, Sandy, Carol, and Marion as well as his adoring grandchildren R.J., Tyler, and Katelyn. He is predeceased by his first wife Christine, his brothers Jimmy, Michael and Bobby and sisters Bonnie and Peggy.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnston will held on Saturday November 6th 2021 at 10:00am at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church 74 West Main St Waterbury Ct when a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit Richards family on Saturday morning at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT 06705 from 8:30am until 9:15am. We continue to remain concerned about the ongoing pandemic so masks will be required during all indoor services whether you are vaccinated or not.
