PROSPECT – Richard R. LaMadeleine, age, 82, of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after an extended illness.
Richard was born on July 16, 1941, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Adelard and Dora (Beausoleil) LaMadeleine. He graduated from St Anne’s Grammar School and Crosby High School. Richard had a master’s degree in counseling and his career focused on spiritual and faith-based addiction and rehabilitation counseling. He spent 26 years as a missionary with the La Salette Fathers. Richard then worked several years as a gate agent for Delta at the international concourse in Atlanta, Georgia, where he met many people and made many lifelong friends. He returned to his passion of counseling and worked as a spiritual counselor at the Talbott Recovery Center in Atlanta, GA, for 18 years which was something he had personal experience with since he was in recovery himself for more than 40 years. Richard also enjoyed counseling the LGBTQ+ community and had significant involvement for several years in assisting priests with marriage encounter classes. However, what brought the greatest joy to Richard was spending time with his family, especially his many nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by all his siblings; Leon A, his twin, Joe, and Roland LaMadeline, Doris Cicchiello, Annette Fortier, and Claire Talbot. His 33 nieces and nephews and their families will continue to honor his legacy and cherish his memory.
Funeral services for Mr. LaMadeleine will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury, to St Anne’s Church, 515 South Main St., Waterbury, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit Richard’s family on Friday morning from 9:30am -10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
