WATERBURY -Mr. Richard Leone Sr. of Waterbury, age 60, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness.
Mr. Leone was born on August 25, 1954 in Waterbury, the son of the late Leo and Helen (Cipriano) Leone. He was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Kennedy High School. Richard worked as the maintenance supervisor at the Salvation Army for over 20 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved his dog, Teddy. He enjoyed restoring cars and motorcycles. Richard was always a "Kid at Heart" and loved playing a practical joke on his family or friends whom he cherished spending time with. He was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Waterbury. The family wishes to acknowledge and extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Waterbury Hospital on Pomeroy 4 and 5.
Richard is survived by his sons: Richard Jr and his wife Sherri of Waterbury and Christopher also of Waterbury. He also leaves his former wife and longtime friend Cynthia Szczepanski of Waterbury and his brother, Thomas Leone of Waterbury. He will be sadly missed by his only granddaughter, Grace.
Funeral services for Mr. Leone will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 am from Eastside Memorial, "A Casey Family Funeral Home & Tribute Center 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd. Waterbury CT to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Relatives and friends may visit with Richard's family on Monday morning at the funeral home from 8:30 until 10:00 am. Memorial donations in Richard's memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 785 Highland Ave. Waterbury CT 06708.
