WATERBURY – Richard David Lush Sr. (Butch), age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the West Haven Veterans Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born on August 12, 1946 in Waterbury, the son of the late Howard and Jeanette (Hannis) Lush. Richard attended local schools and then went on to proudly serve his country, honorably in the United States Army, where he served in Vietnam from 1968-1969. After his service in the Army, Richard went on to work in various factories, and also caring for the disabled in group homes. Richard was proud of his Abenaki Native American Indian Heritage and enjoyed going to Pow-wows and his trip to Odanak with his family. He spent time fishing, doing crafty things such as making jewelry and fixing watches. He was an avid boxing fan. What Richard truly loved the most however, was spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, are his children; Jessica Green (VJ), Trish Cleveland (Johnny), Richard Lush Jr., Jason Lush (Jayme), and David Lush (Kim). He also leaves 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his brother, Edward Lush (Pat), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Richard was predeceased by his son, Kevin Lush, and sister, Jacqueline Marticello.
The family would like to thank the VA, Dr. Dosani, Dr. Suyen Hong, his favorite medical student and the American Red Cross blood Bank.
