US Marine Corps Veteran
WATERBURY – Richard W. Sullivan, age 83, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at River Glen Heath Care Center in Southbury, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Viola (D’Ambrosi)(DiPietro) Sullivan for 38 wonderful years, until her passing in 2013.
Richard was born October 10, 1939, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Eugene and Jessie (Aitchison) Sullivan. A lifelong Waterbury resident, Richard attended local schools and proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed for many years by the ARCO Oil Company until his retirement. Richard was a longtime and faithful parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Church.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his brother, Dr. Raymond (Joan) Sullivan of Middlebury, stepson, Nicholas (Beverly) DiPietro of Manchester, grandson, Paul (Gwen) DiPietro of Jersey City, NJ, granddaughter, Nikki (Peter) Antori of Shrewsbury, MA, great-grandchildren, Olive DiPietro, Alec Antori and Mallory (Josh) Place, and great-great-granddaughter, Myla Place. Besides his parents and wife, Viola, Richard was predeceased by his loving companion, Norma Perugini. He is also survived by three nieces and a nephew.
Mere words are but a feeble attempt to express our family’s gratitude for the loving concern and support offered by Lynn and Ed Hatfield and Tracey Perugini during this most difficult time.
Funeral services for Mr. Sullivan will be held on Friday June 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, SS Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury, CT 6705. Burial with full military honors will follow and Richard will be interred alongside his devoted wife, in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
