Devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend
WATERBURY – It is with profound sadness that we share news of the unexpected passing of Richard Lee Traver, age 63 of Waterbury, on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St Marys Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Rose Traver.
Richard was born October 7, 1959, in Waterbury, the son of the late Edward and Evelyn (Smith) Traver. A lifelong Waterbury resident, Richard was a graduate of Crosby High School and worked for more than 35 years as a Paraprofessional for the State of CT, at Southbury Training School, retiring in 2019. Richard was an avid car enthusiast, treasuring his Corvette, and really enjoyed NASCAR. He looked forward to the Christmas holidays each and every year, dressing as Santa Claus and bringing so much joy to his family and friends. Richard was exceptional in almost every way, but he excelled the most at being a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He especially enjoyed his role as uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful man, warm, kind, and generous and he will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his loving wife, Rose of 40 years are his children: John Cam and his wife, Betty and Marie Cross all of Waterbury. He also leaves his siblings: Edward Traver and his wife Patricia of Wolcott, Ronald Traver and his wife, Jean of Bristol, Scott Traver and his wife, Sue of Plymouth, Wayne Traver and his wife, Amy of Southington, Kim Taraskewich and her husband, Paul of Waterbury, and Evelyn Pedreira and her husband, Victor of Stuart FL. Richard and Rose were blessed with three grandchildren; Charjohna Cam, Khadijah Cam and Cherelle Beamon and two great grandchildren; Davon Tripp and Paxton Brown and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly as he loved them. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Masciello.
